KUCHING: Wide-Fidelity (WiFi) Internet is nothing new at hip bars and cafes but imagine being able to surf the Internet while at the bus stop, or better still, while riding the bus.
This will no longer be a far-fetched scenario as the government has promised that WiFi will be available in Kuching, Bintulu and Sibu by the end of this year at the latest.
Since late last year, the service has been on trial in the resort city of Miri.
According to Infrastructure Development and Communication Assistant Minister Lee Khim Shin, more than 100 WiFi bases are being set up in these cities and towns.
“Seventy WiFi bases are planned to be installed around Kuching City. Presently, nine have been completed here,” Lee told the Dewan Undangan Negeri yesterday during the question and answer session.
