If it is backpacking, it won't be. I will just be not that comfortable, compared to your average luxury holidays.

I wouldn't consider though, because I rather choose to stay in a proper hotel not sharing rooms and bathrooms with other drunk people (which backpackers usually are).

Words of advise, do hell-a-lot of research before you start backpacking. find all the interesting places to visit, cheapest way to get there, cheapest accommodation (with the best features of course) and work out your budget (very important).

Whatever you do, beware, if you decided to go to that stupid Paris, please make sure you learn how to speak French, because if cannot speak one, you shouldn't be there.

Where do you plan to go, that is, where's your starting and ending point?

Why don't you join the Contiki? Granted it's a tour thingee, but it's not as rigid as the usual tours. It's more unconventional and targeted at youths.

Backpacking is not supposed to be expensive, if you know the cheap places to stay and eat. It's affordable if you're there with the intention to see places, not to do shopping. The only expensive thing would probably be the airticket to and fro the destination.

Oh yeah. Most Europeans (especially Western Europeans) can speak English. It's just that they refused to, due to their sense of nationalism. It doesn't hurt to know a little of their languages. French, Italians and Germans are especially proud of their tongues.
