KUCHING: The celebration of Sarawak’s 45 years of independence within Malaysia will be launched by the Head of State, Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Muhammad Salahuddin at the State Stadium on July 22. The programme will commence at 7.30 pm with the theme song “Sarawak Maju Dalam Malaysia”, which was composed by Nonakraf Communications Sdn Bhd. Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Taib Mahmud and his wife, Datuk Amar Puan Sri Hajah Laila Tai, are expected to be present at the launch.
A special show, “Kemilau Kenyalang di Puncak Gemilang - 45 Tahun Sarawak Maju Dalam Malaysia,” is scheduled for the night.

The show, to be presented in five segments, will chronologically portray the history of Sarawak - from the time it gained independence in 1963 p till the present day . There will also be a display of fireworks. The pre-launch celebration, however, will kick off at 5.45 pm with the performance of various popular artistes and the Merdeka Choir until 7.30 pm, when the celebration will be launched. Singing artistes such as Faizal Tahir, Deja Moss, Mila AF, Stacy AF and pop rock band ‘Hujan’ are scheduled to perform after 10.00 pm, in what is called “Pentas Mesra 45 Tahun.”

KUCHING: The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) this year will be doing more for the environment with the introduction of recyclable paper food boxes to replace the polystyrene ones.

Urban Development and Tourism Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh announced this at a press conference here yesterday.

He said the environmentally friendly paper food packaging called ‘eco box’ is the brainchild of MakanMedia Marketing, which will be sponsoring 100,000 boxes at the RWMF.

KUCHING: The Kuching Coffeeshop Owners Association is adopting a wait-and-see attitude on whether to increase the prices of food and beverages following the new price hike of petrol and diesel, effective yesterday.

Its chairman Chuo Lang Kwang said the fuel price hike would definitely have an impact on the members as they would have to spend more on raw materials sourced from other people who too would have to increase their own prices.
